A hedgehog rescue is looking for release sites. This is the information provided:

Norwich & surrounding area Hedgehog Release Sites

Hedgehogs

Good Release Sites wanted.

We are urgently looking for more safe release sites for hedgehogs we have rehabilitated and can’t return to where they were found. We’ve set out below some our requirements. If you think your garden is suitable and you are willing to provide biscuits nightly we’d love to hear from you. To give us the basic information please can you complete the form on the link below and we’ll contact you. Thanks very much.

It must not be close to a busy road and

Chemicals must not be used.

Other questions/points to consider:

What adjoins the land, would a hedgehog have easy access? Are your neighbours gardens also safe and the owners hedgehog friendly?

Is there plenty of undergrowth?

Do you or your neighbours have a hunting or retrieving dog?

Are large areas mown? Grass is of little interest to a hedgehog.

They like hedges unkempt underneath, overgrown areas, or ground cover and shrubs where they can find insects and worms etc. Contrary to popular belief they aren't particularly keen on slugs and snails.

Are there badgers in your area?

Are there already some hedgehogs seen regularly or occasionally?

If you or your neighbours have a pond does it have an easy exit via stones or slope

Here is the online form for the Norwich & surrounding area Hedgehog Release Site Application:

Make sure your neighbours don't apply weedkiller along their fences as this is where the hedgehogs forage and look for gaps to squeeze through. We didn't see our visiting hedgehogs after this happened.

The Hedgehog Rescue Centre is looking for new release sites again. This is the information provided:

There is a new form to fill in if you or your friends are interested: http://www.hedgehoglane.co.uk

We're on the lookout for welcoming, wildlife-friendly gardens, linked to other gardens via hedgehog highways, where we can release our rescue hedgehogs so they can go on to live their best life in the wild. We need city, suburban and rural gardens to release into and look forward to hearing from you.
