Is there a way to take a complaint higher than the chief planner ? It seems like some ridiculous schemes get through planning despite some very reasonable objections by a number of residents  , yet some small almost insignificant amendments to some properties get rejected . Once a decision is made by the chief planner it seems that’s it. The people that make these calls don’t then have to live with what they pass through the process. there must be a way of questioning the decision? Some projects almost seem like they are fast tracked through the system.

You can complain to the Ombudsman. I doubt they would find the outcome in your favour as they are described as being as useful as a chocolate teapot, but it would be on record that a complaint(s) was made at that level. You will first need to lodge a complaint to the District Council before you can take it to the Ombudsman. Don't be put off by the Council's response.

Maybe after the election, you could ask the new MP for some changes in the planning process.

I agree that some ridiculous schemes get through despite obvious problems.
